Dana and Adrienne at Miney's

"Dana and Adrienne often spent the night with Miney and Paw Paw and this probably about 1960.  They always loved going to visit and getting to spend the night.  This was at Miney and Paw Paw's house on Wickershalm. (Houston, TX.)"

The look of affection for her little sister in Adrienne's eyes is so touching!

Adrienne with Long Hair

"Adrienne is about 10 years old in 1956. Adrienne was Miney and Paw Paw's first grandchild so they really spoiled her.  Paw Paw went out and bought her this gown and Robe for a "little" present and she was showing it off for the picture. This was on Wickersham at their house in Houston, TX."

Sisterly love

"Sept. 1985 this cute picture shows that they really love each other!!!"
-Grammy

Before the sibling rivalries could begin, we loved each other so much. Lauren reminds me of sweet Sofia in this picture! Do you recognize the brick floor from Grammy's house under our feet?

School Portrait: Adrienne

"This is Adrienne's second grade school picuture in 1954 when she was at Foster Elementary School and this was the year her teacher called me and said did you know "that Adrienne cannot see the big E on the eye chart from her seat in the school room?  Very embarrassing as first awareness about her nearsightedness"

Generosity Extended

"We sponsored the Luu family and took responsibility for them when they arrived in Houston.  They had to escape from Vietnam and had to pay Pirates $900.00 in gold to get them away and on their way to America.  The pirates abused them very much and the mother had to protect the teen age daughter by wrapping her arms around her 15 year old daughter while the pirates beat the mother.

Before the whole Luu family was able to escape Vietnam the father's brother took their oldest son about 15 and escaped i a pirate ship. They came to our church.  They were Christians and their grandfather was a Christian preacher in Vietnam and endured many hardships.  So, when the family was getting ready to try to get away they needed a sponsor  to come into the US so Hong the brother asked us if we would do that which we were glad to do.

This year in May 2011 we attended the granddaughter's wedding and she made a beautiful bride. We sponsored the Luu family and took responsibility for them when they arrived in Houston.  They had to escape from Vietnam and had to pay Pirates $900.00 in gold to get them away and on their way to America.  The pirates abused them very much and the mother had to protect the teen age daughter by wrapping her arms around her 15 year old daughter while the pirates beat the mother. This year in May 2011 we attended the granddaughter's wedding and she made a beautiful bride."

As if the love Grammy and Grandpa poured into our own family weren't enough, I am constantly amazed as I continue to meet new people and families that they have  invested in for decades with their generosity, love, and support. Only God has seen just how many people they have loved and how many lives they've touched. The rest of us have only a mere sliver of the full picture.

This family is just one example. Grammy always tells the story of asking the father if he needed anything from the store. When he asked for rice, she responsively stopped by his house with about a one pound bag of rice - only to see the large canvas sack in their kitchen. I wonder if he was confused or giggling a little bit inside at how cute Grammy was, thinking that that little bag would satisfy their Asian diet. But true to form, Grammy adapted and has learned so much about this family's particular needs and has continued to love on them through the years.
